Area youth ages 8-16 enjoyed a day of outdoor activities during Streiff Sporting Good KIDS OUTDOORS. This years event was co-sponsored by the Ruffed Grouse Society, Doug’s Supermarket, Delta Waterfowl, Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Heppner Consulting, Engkjer Farms, Cole Gang, Outdoor Connection, Lost River Sportsman Complex, Pepsi, KQ92, Lake Country, WiLD 102 Radio.

This full day event was designed to offer young people opportunities that they may not experience outside of this event. Some of the events included Firearm Safety, Mammals and Trapping, Dog Training, Bird Identification, Archery, Shooting Sports, BB Gun Shoot, Black Horse Pottery, Manage Registration Process, Survival Techniques, Polaris ATV Training, Gun Safety, Cub Scouts.

“This year we hosted 210 participants, the turnout was exceptional. This event is the largest of its kind in the upper Midwest and would not be possible without the supporting sponsors and the help of the community and parent volunteers”, said Conway Marvin, owner Streiff Sporting Goods.

We are very excited about the growth of this event and we are already making plans for the 2008 event. We are confident that we can make it bigger and better than 2007.

This years section presenters for ages 12 and older included Outdoor Connection – Scott Marvin, Shooting Sports – Lost River Sportsman Club, Survival – Tom Bukowiec, Advanced Dog Training – Tom Goldsmith.

Section presenters for 8 to 12 years olds included Archery – Scott Johnson, BB Gun Shoot – Wayne Tweeten, Bird Identification – Dale Telle, Mammal & Trapping – Mike Wicklund, Pottery – Black Horse Pottery, Polaris ATV Training, Cub Scotts – Gretta Krover.

The participants were offered a unique opportunity for hands on demonstrations and one on one instruction in a wide range of topics.
At the end of the day each participant received a goody bag. Each participant was also entered into drawings for prizes including .22 rifles, a youth bow package, Youth Waterfowl Blinds, and Youth 20 gauge, and many more prizes.
