Kids Outdoors 2005

Area youth ages 8-16 enjoyed a day of outdoor activities during Streiff Sporting Goods/KQ92 KIDS OUTDOORS. This years event was co-sponsored by the Ruffed Grouse Society, Doug’s Supermarket, Delta Waterfowl, Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Heppner Consulting, Engkjer Farms and Kotschevar Farms.

This full day event was designed to offer young people opportunities that they may not experience outside of this event. Some of the events included Firearm Safety, Mammals and Trapping, Dog Training, Bird Identification, Deer Management, Archery, Tree Identification and much more.

“This year we hosted 168 participants, the turnout was exceptional. This event is the largest of its kind in the upper Midwest and would not be possible without the supporting sponsors and the help of community and parent volunteers” said Conway Marvin, owner Streiff Sporting Goods.

“We arevery excited about the growth of this event and we are already making plans for the 2006 event. We are confident that we can make it bigger and better than 2005.”

This years section presenters for ages 12 and older included Mammals & Trapping/Rick Olson and Dallas Erickson; Advanced Waterfowl/Rex Grill and Cory Loeffler; Advanced Black Power/Sid Skogstad; Advanced Dog Training/Tom Goldsmith.

Section presenters for 8 to 12 year olds included Tree Identification and Aging/Boise Paper; Horse Roping/Wojo Horse Training; BB Gun Shoot/Streiff’s Dana Klos; Archery Shoot/Streiff’s Ryan Marvin; Bird Identification/Dale Telle; Deer Management/Gordy Streiff; Effective Deer Scents/Greg McGraw.

The participants were offered a unique opportunity for hands on demonstrations and one on one instruction in a wide range of outdoor topics.

At the end of the day each participant received a goody bag filled with a variety of hunting and outdoor products. Each participant was also entered into drawings for prizes including several .22 caliber rifles, Avery Goose Blind, a youth bow, hunting clothing and the opportunity to win a 20 gauge shotgun. All participants had a change to win prizes valued at over $2,500.
