Great Scope!!

By

from Gainesville, GA, United States

About Me

Comments:

Hunted with this scope for the first time last weekend. Great "Bang for the Buck". Performance is what I have received from European scopes that cost a great deal more. Good in low light conditions. Easy to pick up your target. Crystal clear images. It was raining/snowing, no problems with fogging! Well done Leupold!!

The Best Rifle Scope I Own

By

from Upper Michigan

About Me

Comments:

It was a stretch for me to purchase this scope but it's truly a work of art Preforms better than anything I have ever owned and I couldn't be more pleased. I looked at several other name brands for a little less money but am thankful I settled on another Leupold. I have several other Leupold scopes and have had only one sent in for warranty after 36 years of use. I haven't gotten it back yet but expect it will be as new when I do, it's one reason I buy Leupold, they back up their products no hassel.

Simply Not the Leupold Quality I was Expecting

By

About Me

Comments:

I purchased the VX-6 3-18x50mm Side Focus CDS-ZL w/ the FireDot WindPlex reticle back in October 2016 and just got around to un-boxing it today 2 months later. It was sold as a "One Time Run", so that should have been my first clue. Right out of the box I noticed the gasket around the windage turret was offset and useless (see pic). When you pop-up the windage turret, it is very loose and wobbly. Just not the "Leupold" feel I was expecting. The Zero Lock elevation turret is off by 1/2 a click no matter what I do. I have loosened the allen screws but due to the zero lock it always remains 1/2 a click off (see other pic). The variable power and parallax knobs are very difficult to turn, even after working each one back and forth 20+ times. It will be very tough with gloves on. A downside to the Zero Lock is that you cannot go down in elevation, even if you press-in the button. So when zeroing at the range seems you will have to remove the entire turret to adjust the elevation down. Overall this has been a very unpleasant experience, especially for a scope in this price range, and I have yet to even mount it. This is the most expensive scope I have purchased to date and was a major hit to my pocket book. I put in the money this time around hoping this would be a great scope to last a lifetime, but if this is "Leupold Quality" then I'll go elsewhere for far less next time.

By far the best scope I've ever owned!

About Me

Comments:

I Bought my first Leupold in 1980. It has performed flawlessly. I now own 14 Leupolds and highly recommend them to all my friends. The VX-6 is by far the best scope I have ever saw! The VX-6 will give you an extra 15 to 30 more minutes of shooting light. No other scope on the market equals the quality of a Leupold. Thank you for a wonderful product!

Best scope I've ever had

About Me

Comments:

I think their scope information is confusing. I have product number 120597 with the zero lock illuminated firedot windplex reticle. The CDS means custom dial system and I think it is the same as the BDC system (ballistic drop compensator). The scope comes with a standard click adjust elevation system. Once you get your drop figured out in number of clicks above your zero (I use 100 yd), you send them the information and they make a custom dial that you then use to replace the standard elevation dial. This dial is marked 1 (with a lock at the 100 yard), 2, 2.5, 3, etc out to 5 as I recall. To shoot at 250 yards, push to release the zero lock and crank to 2.5. You also have to tell them ALL the balistics info: temperature, elevation, ballistic coefficient, bullet weight, velocity, etc. I shoot Winchester BST 140 grain stock factory ammo as I don't hand load. I just chose the factory specs off the website and the box. All my bullet drop compensation were obtained by shooting at 100, 200, 250, 300, 350 and 400 yards (takes time and ammo) but it was worth it. I got a deer this year at 240 yards ranged with a laser rangefinder, set the dial to 2.4 and fired. The POI was within one inch of my POA. You have to take the time, ammo and energy to get your bullet ballistic drops correct, but boy is it fast. No holdover or clicking up from 100 based on the numbers on your card taped to your rifle. They also custom build and send you a wind plex card to adjust for wind if you want to do that. Wow, what a scope. Illumination clicks 5 dots to max, 5 dots back down to minimum.

Best scope I've ever used

About Me

Comments:

Bought this just before my hunting season started, was not let down. I'm a 100% disabled veteran and have spinal cord issues. My right eye has a blind spot in the center. But with the lighted center I can see this without what I call flipping the crosshairs. You can shoot with this from Dawn to Dusk. Without any problems. I mounted mine on a Remington Model 700 XCR II Rocky Mountain Elk Addition 300 Win Mag. This is a fantastic Scope System.

A very well made scope

About Me

Comments:

I just purchased this scope and spent the day at the range shooting a 300 WSM. Fantastic glass and solid feeling knobs and adjustments. I purchased the illuminated Varmint reticle and really like it. Very pricey, but I think I got what I paid for.

Dial up the money shot

By

from Nelson, New Zealand

About Me

Comments:

The best gold ring I've brought and I have nothing but good things to say about this awesome piece of kit. The glass truly is top quality with untouched clarity. I'm yet to take it out in the field and drop that trophy stag as the deer have recently dropped their antler's here in New Zealand. So far I've only shot metal gongs since fitting this scope to my tikka 270 but I have to say I'm impressed. I can confidently dial up right out to 600 yards and beyond and make that metal sing. My previous scope was a Leupold vx3 4.5-14 bone and crocket, and although it was an amazing scope it was a little difficult in the low light when zoomed right in to confidently shoot out to long distance targets. Having the aid of the illuminated fire dot on the new vx6 scope makes the lower light shooting just that little bit easier, especially if in a bit of a hurry, a sweet little addition. As a good keen hunter in our own back yard here in New Zealand I've now got that confidence back to be able to make those long shots without any doubt of not making a clean kill shot. I'm now ready to dial up that big trophy and squeeze the trigger and make that all exciting money shot.
